Provide taste, touch, smell, and colour experiences with safe raw ingredients using a taste tray! You can use anything you have, including a muffin oven tray. Make sure that whilst your preschooler is sampling foods, you are encouraging descriptive language (soft, crunchy, juicy, smooth, etc.). Some taste test ideas could include;
crackers, cheese, sliced ham, pickles, olives, melon, carrots, celery, apple, raisins, popcorn, cottage cheese, marshmallows, raw peppers etc.
Print off this food-inspired wordsearch, and let your preschoolers enjoy!
To level up this activity, you could even have samples of each food item, so once they have found the word in the wordsearch, they can try and see whether they like that food item! The food items to find are: sushi, pizza, rice, French fries, cake, fried chicken, steak, hamburger, cheese and bread.

Smelling Jars are a great sensory tool that allows preschoolers to identify and compare different scents, learning to discriminate between them. It also improved memory, focus, builds cognitive association and promotes independent learning. We would recommend using strong scents ( essential oils on cotton wool, kitchen spices, citrus fruits, vanilla extract, but the options are endless!).

To expand on this activity, ask your child to play a matching game! Print off photos of the items you select, and see if they can identify the hidden scent to the correct photo.
