Welcome to Ducklings Preschool.

Prior to registering your child at our Preschool you may find yourself asking certain questions. We have endeavoured to answer just some of the frequently asked questions below.

As part of our commitment to maintaining good communications between ourselves and the families we cater for we will continue to add any information that will be of benefit to you.

What should my child wear to pre-school?

Ducklings does have a uniform which can be purchased, this is not compulsory however families have found it to be helpful in the settling in process, being part of our family.
The uniform consists of polo shirt and/or sweatshirt in red or navy. An order form can be obtained from your site Manager. Please dress your child in clothes that are comfortable and easy to pull up/down to make toileting easier. Also because of the messy activities on offer it is advisable not to wear best clothes to pre-school.

What does my child need to bring to pre-school?

All children are asked to provide a pair of Wellington boots for use at pre-school and as children have access to the outdoors on a daily basis children will need a coat appropriate for the weather every day. Children should also bring a bag containing a change of clothes. All items must be clearly named. Ducklings Preschool cannot be held liable for any item lost.

What about toilet training?

Children do not need to be toilet trained to attend pre-school, please provide us with a bag containing nappies, wipes and nappy sacks for your child’s requirements. The pre-school is happy to work with parents during toilet training. Please provide several changes of clothes in case of accidents.

What do you provide at snack time?

At each session the children have snack time. The pre-school provides milk or water to drink and we would encourage parents to take advantage of this healthy option rather than bringing juice. If however you wish your child to have juice you will need to bring it in a named beaker, one for each session. Fizzy drinks or sports type drinks are not allowed. Children are provided with a healthy snack to eat.

My child is staying for lunch what will they need?

Children who stay for lunch will need to bring their own packed lunch and drink. We encourage parents to provide a healthy lunch and sweets/chocolate and fizzy drinks are not allowed. For health and safety reasons we ask children not to bring products which contain nuts or apples in their lunch box.

How/When do I pay fees?

We aim to be flexible so ask that fees are paid in advance on a weekly, half termly or termly basis. Fees are collected by staff on site and can be paid by cash or cheque. If paying by cheque please add ₤1.00 administration charge. Ducklings are also able to accept childcare vouchers.

What is Government Funding?

The Government provides free childcare for all children the term following their 3rd birthday. Every child is entitled to claim 6 x 2.5 hr sessions per week. Please see the Manager of your site for more information.

What will my child be doing at Preschool?

Ducklings Preschool follows the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum laid down by the Government. There are 6 different areas of learning: Communication, Language and Literary (CLL), Problem solving, numeracy and reasoning (PNR), Knowledge and Understanding of the World (KUW), Personal, Social and Emotional (PSE), Creative (CD) and Physical (PD). When planning activities for the children all of these areas will be taken into account. More information can be found online at www.standards.dfes.gov.uk/eyfs/or ask your site manager about the leaflet for parents.
